Extremadura Estate

This country house designed by Ábaton in Cáceres, western Spain, replaces a dilapidated stable, and retains the former building’s basic shape and layout, and its rustic charm. Deep eaves prevent too much sun from entering the house during summer, and large wooden shutters can be slid closed at night to cover the large windows at night to trap the heat inside. The bedrooms have huge picture windows overlooking the countryside. Electricity comes from photovoltaic panels and hydropower.
