Hotel Maximilian

Eva Jiricna’s brief for this Prague hotel was to upgrade and refresh its spaces, and her response is a tribute to the ambience of the 1920s, when the building was constructed. The reception uses materials evocative of the time, with a backlit yellow onyx wall and desks in walnut and black lacquer, while the theme continues throughout two guest salons, a library, smokers’ room and breakfast room, where there is a glass extension overlooking a landscaped courtyard. Furniture by Eileen Gray and graphics by Czech artists of the era (on loan from Prague’s Museum of Decorative Arts) create an atmospheric experience for guests.
