Villa Bloemendaal

A newly built home in the town of Bloemendaal, the Netherlands. Inspired by the villa’s natural surroundings (an undulating dune landscape), architects Paul de Ruiter have used large expanses of glass to bring nature closer. Reflecting this, i29’s interiors also focus on natural materials, including an extensive use of pine-veneered plywood, which has been made into wardrobes, sliding doors, beds and a fireplace: a modest material is given high design status through this beautifully realised detailing. The building is also sustainable, made with high levels of insulation and incorporating a heat pump, solar panels and a sedum roof.
