Hauser & Wirth Somerset - Mario Scotto

Sep 17 2014

Contemporary art gallery Hauser & Wirth’s rural outpost near Bruton in Somerset is an antidote to the idea of the gallery as an urban white cube. Housed in a series of listed farm buildings, the gallery is actually a complex of spaces: Parisian architect Luis Laplace of Laplace & Co restored existing buildings, then created an enclosed courtyard space by building two new gallery spaces. The courtyard is filled by a garden designed by Piet Oudolf, and… Read more

Sartoria - Romina Osuna Tunks

Dec 30 2015

Savile Row institution Sartoria has had a full facelift this winter – the space has been opened up, the door moved and the fusty curtains removed, showing off the huge picture windows, and it’s fair to say it’s much fresher. Acclaimed interior designer David D’Almada of Sagrada has created a space which offers playful nods to Savile Row’s sartorial history with a riot of different textiles from brocade to felt via velvet and pile, not… Read more

Make Yourself Comfortable at Chatsworth House - Romina Osuna Tunks

Sep 22 2015

Chatsworth is one of Europe’s greatest stately homes, a 300-year-old baroque masterpiece owned by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and filled with one of the greatest historical art collections in private hands. However this is not a historic relic but a thriving home, and for their big 2015 exhibition the Duke and Duchess, along with Hannah Obee, the Curator of Exhibitions and Special Projects, decided to showcase some of the top furniture designers in… Read more

Athens Apartment - Mario Scotto

Feb 17 2015

The apartment is located in a 50’s residential block in the centre of Athens. It was radically renovated in 2003 by Theodore Zoumboulakis in accordance with the simple contemporary philosophy. Several old fashioned elements such as skirting boards, polished wooden flooring and plaster frames, residue of the aesthetics of the time of its construction, were removed while the apartment was redesigned following the requirements of contemporary architecture and technology. Mazzini 31 - Mario Scotto

May 8 2015

Located in the Umbrian town of Monteleone D’Orvieto, Mazzini 31 was restored by Chicago-based architect Patrizio Fradiani of Studio F, and his partner Mark – the pair are serial renovators and run Luci di Casa, renting out their vacation properties in Italy and Mexico. This medieval palazzo was brought back to life by uncovering and restoring original features, including layers of wall and ceiling frescoes dating back several hundred years – then adding layers of… Read more

Nandos, Vauxhall - Mario Scotto

Nov 20 2014

The design brief was to create a large restaurant within a vast converted railway arch space, making sure the design stays true to the brand. Intelligent utilisation of materials and lighting on Moreno Masey’s behalf ensures the restaurant is kept informal and intimate within a large and simple archway space. The volume is highlighted by the use of timber shingles throughout and exposed original brick structure. The result is a dramatic and exciting space, revealed passing through a… Read more

Canalside - Benchmark

Jul 9 2014

Retrouvius extensively remodelled this canal side home to meet the needs of an expanding family. The staircase was boxed in and the building was missing the sense of space. A lack of storage and tricky navigation of ground floor doorways had led to a cluttered and confused hallway. Opening up and providing multiple routes with sliding doors and moving surfaces was the answer.
