If Piet Oudolf is one of the most influential garden designers and plantsmen of the 21st century, then his famous garden at his house near Hummelo is the shrine to Oudolf’s ‘New Perennial’ movement – thousands of gardeners visit every year, seeking inspiration. The garden as it stands today is divided loosely into sections, with an approach half-obscured by hedges, creating a sense of anticipation. The borders are filled with perennials and grasses, and in the trial section and the nursery sections it is possible to get a feel for where this master gardener will go next.

Hummelo: A Journey Through a Plantsman’s Life, written in conjunction with the renowned Noel Kingsbury to commemorate Oudolf’s 70th birthday, celebrates this remarkable space and shows how it has changed over the last 30 years.
